For iOS Devices

QUICK SETUP GUIDE:
1 - Install “Micro Focus iPrint” (formally known as Novell iPrint) from Apple Apps Store. Configure it to use the server “iprint-app.lowellschools.com” <no quotes> and log in using your Novell login and password.
2 - When you print from within any iOS app, choose either AirPrint and select the appropriate printer OR use the “Open In” feature and choose Micro Focus iPrint. The Open In feature is not available on all applications but more reliable than AirPrint, therefore different apps will use different printing methods (see below for more information on this or see the Micro Focus iPrint User Guide link above).

Detailed Instructions for iOS:
Printing from an iOS device is accomplished two different ways, depending on if the app supports the Open In feature . Some apps with therefore use AirPrint and others that support the Open In feature will use the app Micro Focus iPrint, found in the Apple Apps Store. The Open In feature is displayed in different ways depending on the application. The Open In icon is usually represented as a piece of paper (or a square) with an arrow pointing away from it.

Some iOS Apps which use AirPrint are:

  • Camera
  • Notes
  • Mail
  • Safari
  • Chrome
  • Dropbox

Note 1: Not all apps are listed.
Note 2: The following iOS Apps are known to work with the Novell iPrint App:

  • Adobe Reader
  • Attachments in Mail app (except for photos)
  • Additional apps as support is provided

It is recommended to install the Micro Focus iPrint App and configure it to connect to server iprint-app.lowellschools.com . Within the app, you can choose which printers you want to save as favorites.

For Android devices:

1 - From the Android Play Store, locate and install the “Micro Focus iPrint” app. Set it up to use “iprint-app.lowellschools.com” as the server <no quotes> and login using your Novell login and password. NOTE: if iprint-app.lowellschools.com does not work, try iprint-app.lowell.k12.mi.us for the server.

- when adding the server, you will get a message saying “Untrusted Certificate Could not verify the certificate for iprint-app.lowell.k12.mi.us. Do you want to continue? ” You should select to Continue.

You need to first click on the words “view details” within that message. You will then get a screen that looks like this:
,
Here, you need to click on ADVANCED, which will then look like this:
,
Finally, here you need to click “Proceed to iprint-appliance.lowell.k12.mi.us (unsafe)”. After all this you will now be able to go back and successfully install any printers you need. This message should be a one time occurrence.
