Groupwise Mobile – Lowell Area Schools

START HERE: The Following Instructions will help you setup your mobile device or smartphone to sync (in real time) with your GroupWise Mailbox and Calendar.


Before setting up GWMobile for the first time ever , the following is assumed:

  1. You submitted a tech. request to asked to be added to GWMobile at one point. (Because it needs to be setup on the network side once before it will work for you.
  2. Your mobile device has a successful connection to the Internet or LAS-Staff network. If not go click HERE.
  3. You are not currently using any other App or POP3 to sync your device with your GroupWise email. Doing so may cause issues. If you are using a 3rd party app disable/uninstall before proceeding with these instructions. If you use 3rd party apps GWCalendar and/or GWMail, uninstall these. Disable all POP3 connections first before proceeding.

Once you are all set with the above or you received a new phone, then just Choose the instructions for your model below.

IOS (iPhone / iPad / iPod) Instructions:

  1. Goto SETTINGS
  2. For IOS v.10 and below, go to “Mail” or “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” - For IOS v.11, go to Accounts & Passwords
  3. Click “Add Account”
  4. Select “Exchange” and when it ask you to name it, put in something that makes sense to you such as “Lowell Email”
  5. Use the following information to complete the necessary setup steps :
    1. Email : (your normal email ie:JSmith@lowellschools.com)
      1. Password : (your normal LAS GroupWise password)
      2. Description : (this field is optional – it can be left blank, or customize with whatever you want ie: LAS Mail, Groupwise, Work)
      3. With all the info from steps 1 thru 3 entered, click NEXT, it will say “Verifying” for few seconds…
      4. A new field labeled “SERVER” should now show up, in that field enter “gwmobile.lowellschools.com” (without the quotes)
      5. Enter your username in the username field ie: \JSmith (DO NOT ENTER YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HERE) (don't forget the \ symbol before username) and then click NEXT
      6. Now, you can choose what to sync. You can always change these settings later. Your options are Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Reminders. If you only want email, turn everything but Mail off. Click SAVE to complete the setup process.
      7. From your device applications, choose MAIL application to access your email. Choose the Calendar app to see your GroupWise calendar events.
      8. By default, all events 3 days and newer are synced. This is the recommended setting.

ANDROID (Droid) Smart-Phone Instructions:

  1. Goto SETTINGS
  2. Goto “Accounts & sync”
  3. Click “Add Account”
  4. Select “Corporate or Exchange or MS Exchange” (The selection terminology may defer from device to device). If it ask you to name the new account, put in something that makes sense to you such as “Lowell Email”
  5. Use the following information to complete the necessary setup steps :
    1. Email : (your normal email ie:JSmith@lowellschools.com)
    2. Password : (your normal LAS GroupWise password.
    3. Domain : (leave this blank> (The field may or may not appear) (tap Manual setup if needed for advanced features.)
    4. Domain\Username: enter username (First letter of your first name then your last name) ie: “\JSmith” without the quotes. (don't forget the \ symbol before username)
    5. Server: gwmobile.lowellschools.com
    6. Use Secure Connection (SSL) and or Accept all SSL certificates SHOULD be CHECKED.
    7. Click Next or OK

From your device applications, choose MAIL application to access your email. Choose the Calendar app to see your GroupWise calendar events. Use the Contacts app to see and access your contacts.
